This question was written by Mr. Stefan from Germany. For a couple of personal reasons I was unable to answer fast so it took me more then one month to reply it. On March 27th I answered :
Sorry for my late answer. I will provide you any details about Danube Delta, but… I have an “instrument for communication” called Forum GDD on my web site (GDD = Danube Delta Guide, Romanian acronim).
If you agree, I will start soon a new topic, in English of course, where we can debate about your fishing trip in the Danube Delta. The purpose of doing that (from my side) is to give access to the information about Danube Delta to as many users as possible.

Me and a friend of mine are going to enter the forum and discuss the topic.
What i can offer you is to do some propaganda for you here in Germany. Me and the guy who wants to travel into the Delta are well known fisherman in the German scene. So we can write in the planned article for several magazines after the trip, that you was a great help to us. That’s how we could say a little thank you for your help.
I was almost sure about his reaction: in the civilized world, nothing is for free !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
But, in my opinion, to start having more foreign tourists in the Danube Delta, to increase the responsible tourism in this area, somebody has to do it if the State doesn’t !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Great !!! But I want you to understand that I am doing this ( to describe Danube Delta and help people to come on their own for fishing or bird watching … ) as a hobby.
On the other hand, if somebody wants to hire me as a professional Danube Delta Guide, especially for extreme traveling & bird watching, also for fishing trips or only or wants to use my power boats, of course I will charge this.
So just relax, I will help you without any charge to configure a nice fishing trip in Danube Delta.

Now let’s get started … I will need to provide me some brief information about your intentions :
1. How long do you intend to stay in Romania ? (from crossing the border in, up to crossing it out)
2. How long do you intend to stay in the Danube Delta ? (including the day of arriving in Dunaudelta and the day of departure from Dunaudelta)
3. How do you travel to Romania ? (airplane, car, motorbike, other…)
4. Do you want to visit other touristic objectives in Romania ? (on the road if coming by car or motorbike, in Bucharest if coming by plane or in Tulcea / Dobrogea county when entering / exiting the Dunaudelta)
5. In Danube Delta do you want to have a fixed base and to travel around by power boat each day from that fixed base or you would like more a circuit, also by power boat ?
6. The main activities in Danube Delta are : fishing, bird watching, wild life photography and exploring the Delta. Please make an hierarchy of these activities from your point of view.
7. What kind of fishing do you practice ? (spinning, stationary fishing, other… )
8. What kind of accommodation do you prefer ? (tent, pension, hotel, any combination of these, doesn’t matter …)
9. In case of tent accommodation, do you have with you the complete gear ?
10. Also in case of tent accommodation, do you have any experience of being alone in the wilderness ? (this question is not about dealing with dangerous wild animals because in the Danube Delta aren’t such animals )
Stefan, in my opinion this is the basic set of answers you have to provide me to go further with my explanations. In the end you will get a complete set of instructions, local contacts, approximate prices for the facilities you need, GPS track(s), maps and day by day description of your wild adventure in the Dunaudelta.

Hello everybody.
Let me first introduce my self: my name is stefan kunze. I’am president of the german carpfishing society (www.dkac-sachsen-anhalt.de sorry, just in german)
Me and a friend if mine would like to do a carpfishing trip at the end if septembet into the dunaudelta.Now i will try to answer the 10 questions:
1.we would like to enter romania at septembet 19th and we will leave at september 26th.2.we try to get into the delta from rhe first day an want to leave at the last day. Our only intention is fishing, filming and photographing into the delta.
3. We travel into romania by our own car. Because we bring our own biat with us. The plan ist tobtravel to murighiol, where we would like to buy the licence for fishing, for our journey into the delta and for the boat at the tourist info. We would like to park our car at one of the camping areas in murighiol.
4. We will not visit other sites. I habe been with the german navy in 2008 in constanta. We have had several daytrips. For example to tulcea, where i made a boattrip into the delta.
5. In the delta we are looking for a place thats looks like a good place for carofishing and if the fishing at this site is good we qould stay there. If the site is not so good, we would move maybe after 3 days.
6. Fishing is our abolutely main intention. Photographing and wildlife observation is both on the second place.
7. We are stationary carofishermen, that are used to stay for a long time at one place and wait for the big one.
8+9+10 we are used to stay very long time in a tent in the wildernes. Some of us spent more than 100 days per year outside in a tend. Our gear is complete for every situation on earth 😉
At the end i have some questions to you: i read somewhere, that we need a license for us to visit the delta, a license for the boat and a fishing license. I also read that i can buy this in the tourist info in murighiol which has open dayly until 4 pm. Is that right? Do we need more licenses?
We would like to go with our boat what has a small 5hp outboarmotor (small 4m boat). I have a german driving license for boats. Is there some problem about that?
We would like to go in some small lake next to the gorgova lake. Maybe at the east side of the gorgova lake. We are looking for a small hidden place in deep nature. But i don’ t know if there is a nature reserve in that we are not allowed to fish or to travel.
What about risks and crime? I habe heared some people that say its dangerour for foreigners to travel alone into the delta. Do we have to be afraid or is it as dangerous as everywhere in the world when you are new and alone?Thank you really mich for your help!!!!

Hi Stefan, glad to “hear” you on Forum GDD and thank you for your clear answers. Your answers will help me to provide you clear information.
In the beginning, I saw we have enough time till September 19th … 🙂 to prepare your trip 🙂 🙂 :-).

That is correct. You can buy also this licences from Tulcea witch is the county capital from RBDD. I will provide you the exact link for RBDD and the costs. To be German = correct 🙂 to the end, you will need also a licence for the car because Murighiol or Mahmudia are into the Biosphere Reservation.

In Romania you don’t need a driving licence for a boat like yours.

This information is also true : is like any other place in the world when you are alone and foreigner 🙂 . Is good to know that the “strong currency” in Danube Delta is the strong alcohol (snaps) 🙂 🙂 🙂 . This can take you out from any trouble…

Let’s get started …
First, sorry for my delayed answer. This week (in fact this Sunday) is the Easter for Orthodox Christians . Even this weekend is intended for meditation and preparation for this Great Holiday , on the other hand in private business there are a lot of things to do …
Approach to Dunaudelta :
I suppose you are coming from Berlin. You can take any highway you want in Germany but the best is the one passing through Budapest and Szeged, in Hungary. If you intend to sleep close to Romanian border, in my opinion the best option is in Szeged. Youa have there a great Novotel with sauna and swimming pool that will prepare you for passing into the “wilderness” of the Danube Delta …
From Szeged to Romanian you have around 40 km (highway only to Mako). Even the route through Romania is not very long – about 881 km – this you’ll take you, on the safe side, about 2 days !!! First part, Nadlac – Bucharest is around 640 km and it will take you around 8 h up to 11 hours (but you can consider also 13 h, it depends on the traffic) . Second part, Bucharest – Tulcea is around 280 km. I recommend you to stop overnight in Bucharest or close to the capital because is easy to find a decent hotel.
I will attach you a *.gpx file that you can use to find the A2 = Autoroute de Soleil from Bucharest. Please don’t laugh too much, in Romania is a little bit difficult to find the few highways that we have …
If you will do exactly as I said, you will arrive in Tulcea early morning, time enough to buy authorizations for everything concerning Danube Delta. The good news is you have at your disposal in Tulcea some “cash – machines” at ARBDD where you can buy all kind of authorizations (Car, Fishing, Delta Access, Boat Access).
The exact address for ARBDD is 820243 – Tulcea, Romania, Str. PORTULUI 34A, O.P.3 C.P. 14 (the bold part is for GPS). The English name for ARBDD is Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority.
Back to “passing” through Romania … The cities you will pass through Romania are : Nadlac (border with Hungary), Deva, Sebes, Sibiu, Ramnicu Valcea, Pitesti and Bucuresti.
In the second part you will take the A2 from Bucharest up to Constanta, then, around km 106 – 108 you will leave the highway towards Slobozia on DN21, then you will keep the road to Constanta on DN21, you will catch to the half-right the DN2A. You will pass on this road the villages Bucu and Ograda, coming next the small town of Tandarei.
The road DN2A will lead you to the small village of Giurgeni, where you will pass the Dunau on a bridge to the next village called Vadu Oii, on the left side of the mighty river. The tax for passing the bridge is around 11 lei (about 2.5 Euros). You can pay only cash, in lei !!!
Next town you will see is Harsova. After you pass this town the DN2A will go to the right, to Constanta and your road will become DN22A, to the left, towards Tulcea. From that moment when you enter the DN22A you have another 165 km towards Tulcea.
The road will lead you through one of the nicest counties from our country : Dobtogea. You will pass a lot of nice villages where you will see with you own eyes the mix of cultures . Youa will leave this road to the left in Cataloi, taking DN22 towards Tulcea for about 17 km.
Entering Tulcea you will keep to the right, around a a Lukoil gas station, finding the way to Mahmudia and Murighiol. From Tulcea you have another 24 km up to Murighiol.
In Murighiol you have to find Murighiol Harbour. There you can park your car safety and also you can put your boat on water.
I provide you the exact GPS trace in GPX format for going from Bucharest to Murighiol.

Here is the first VERY DETAILED MAP of the lakes around Gorgova Lake.
As I understood from your previous posts, your intention is to find a good place for fishing on the east side of Gorgova Lake, possibly in these 3 lakes : Gorgova? Lake, Potcoava Lake and Babin?ii Mari Lake.
From now on, this map will be a “base-map” for our post. Until I will parse all the steps, including getting there and around, please study this map and try to understand all the water connections between the lakes.
Don’t worry, I will provide you extremely precised GPS coordinates for each entry and exit from all these lakes. You have two main enemies : orientation and the wind… but we will talk about.

Some facts …
In the south part of the great Gorgova Lake there is the longest water channel in Danube Delta : Waterway Litcov.
The Litcov Water Channel is your main access route to Gorgova Lake, also your main escape route in case of severe weather. All the further explanations concerning approaching to Gorgova Lake coming from Murighiol (and getting back home) will be based on getting to Litcov Water Channel from where you can access the Gorgova Lake and the lakes around.
The access to the Litcov Waterway is provided for you from the south by two short water channels : Isaccel Waterway (E) and Filat Waterway (V), the last is providing access directly from the Danube.

As I promised, I am back with new information about getting around Gorgova Lakes living from Murighiol. Basically you have three main possibilities getting from Murighiol to Litcov water channel :
1. Way I Murighiol – Litcov for Gorgova Lakes
Murighiol – Cotul Uzlinei (Uzlina Curve) – Marea Bucla a Uzlinei amonte (Uzlina Great Loop going upstream) – Satul Uzlina (Uzlina village) – Canalul Uzlina (Uzlina water channel) – Lacul Uzlina (Uzlina Lake) – Canalusul Bibanilor (Perch Fish small water channel) – Lacul Isacova (Isacova Lake) – Isac I (the north – western exit from Isacova Lake) – Canalul Isaccel (Isaccel water channel) – Canalul Litcov (Litcov water channel).
Going right on Litcov water channel you will see the entrance on the water channel that will lead you towards Potcoava Lake (Horseshoe Lake). Going left on Litcov water channel you will have the the water channel that you’ll lead you towards the entrance on Gorgovat Lake. Going further on the left on Litcov water channel you will have another entrance to Gorgovat Lake (the classic one).
1. Way II Murighiol – Litcov for Gorgova Lakes
In case of medium wind (about 20 – 30 km/h) to cross Uzlina Lake but the much bigger Isacova Lake can be dangerous. In this case your route will be :
Murighiol – Cotul Uzlinei (Uzlina Curve) – Marea Bucla a Uzlinei amonte (Uzlina Great Loop going upstream) – Satul Uzlina (Uzlina village) – Canalul Uzlina (Uzlina water channel) – Lacul Uzlina (Uzlina Lake) – Iesirea Nord – vestica de pe Lacul Uzlina (North – Western exit from Uzlina Lake) – Lacul Durnaleapca (Durnaleapca Lake) – Lacul Isaccel (Isaccel – Small Isac Lake) – Canalul Isaccel (Isaccel water channel) – Canalul Litcov (Litcov water channel)
Onto this route you will have to cross smaller lakes. The difficulty of this route will be much harder because of the orientation. You will meet Litcov water channel at the same point as you meet taking the previous route and you will have the same access points to the lakes beside Gorgova Lake.
1. Way III Murighiol – Litcov for Gorgova Lakes
In case of strong wind (< 30 km/h) you should avoid crossing ANY LAKE. On Isacova Lake the wawes can be higher then 1 m and shorter than 2 m = very dangerous for a 4 meters boat. In this case your route will be : Murighiol - Cotul Uzlinei (Uzlina Curve) - Marea Bucla a Uzlinei amonte (Uzlina Great Loop going upstream) - Satul Uzlina (Uzlina village) - amonte pe Marea Bucla a Uzlinei (Upstream on Uzlina Great Loop) - Canalul Filat (Filat water channel) - Canalul Litcov (Litcov water channel). In this case, you will reach Litcov water channel at west if you compare with the previous two entry points. Almost straight ahead, crossing Litcov water channel, you will have tha water cahnnel that will lead you towards Gorgovat Lake. I'll be back with detailed explanation about each of these three ways from Murighiol to Litcov, towards Gorgova Lakes.

Dangers on the road … 🙂
1. Danger 1 :
Danger 1 is located on Uzlina water channel, immediately after you pass the village. It consists in a stone dam partially destroyed. You have to keep the exact middle of the water channel and for being on the safe side, you have to lift the boat engine as much as you can. The danger zone starts around 20 meters before the dam and ends another 20 meters after.
2. Danger 2 :
Danger 2 is located at the end of Uzlina water channel, where the water channel is exiting in the Uzlina Lake. You will have on the left side couple of clumps of reeds and on your right side a tinny submerged forest.
As the reeds ends, you will see clear water on your left side. In fact there is an submerged island and the depth of the water is very low ( smaller than 0.3 m ). The tinny forest is going with you inside the lake more than 100 m after the reeds ends on your left side. At the end of the forest there are some complete submerged trees, usually that you do not see because of the water.
You have to keep the exact middle of the water channel. When the channel ends and you have only the tiny forest on your right side you have to keep straight ahead 4 or 6 meters away from the forest. After the forest ends you have to keep straight ahead for another 100 meters (at least). After you are in the middle of Uzlina Lake you can go left or right.
The same when you come back. You have to go in the middle of Uzlina Lake and to take the exact parallel direction with the tinny forest. As you approach the tinny forest you will adjust the boat direction to enter 4 or 6 meters away from the tinny forest that will stay now on your left.
3. Danger 3 :
Danger 3 zone is located at the west border of Durnaleapca Lake, before crossing to Isaccel Lake. You will have two tinny water channels that are crossing the reed between the two lakes.
Two find one of these two water channels the best way is to cross the Durnaleapca Lake from SE to N and then to take the W shore, scanning the reed. When you will see the first tinny water channel you will take it and you can pass to Isaccel Lake.
4. Danger 4 :
Danger 4 zone is located on Way III, at the entrance of Filat water channel from the Danube Uzlina Great Loop.
300 or 500 meters before the entrance on the Filat water channel coming upstream the Danube Uzlina Great Loop you will see on your right a wooded shore that will ends suddenly and a reed shore starts. There is the entrance on Filat water channel, between the reed and the forest shore.
Less then 100 meters before the Filat water channel entrance you have to take the wooded shore less then 5 meters away, being very careful at the submerged trees. The submerged trees are visible and must be passed very carefully.
As you approach to the water channel entrance the distance between your boat and the wooded shore will decrease to 2 meters. When you make right to really enter the water channel you effectively pass under the branches of a willow tree that will fall close to the water surface.
On your left side, in front of the entrance on the water channel, inside the Danube there is a huge submerged island that stands up to the middle of the river. In that area the water depth is less then 0.30 meters. Standing close to the wooded shore you have enough water to pass and to enter the Filat water channel.
After entering the Filat water channel you can keep the middle of the water channel.
5. Danger 5 :
Approximately to the half distance of the Filat water channel there is a very tight curve. If initially the Filat water channel is going towards SE, after the curve the water channel is going towards NE.
In that curve, on your right side (east) there is a huge underwater trunk (tree). In that curve you have to keep close to the left (west) shore.
The Filat water channel ends in Litcov water channel. You will take right or left depending on your insertion point in Gorgova Lakes area.
